The Roots -

Searching and Reflection of HK in Tai O Stilt House

Graduation Project - 2019

by Kelvin Wong

Searching for roots, is an experience of disorientation, and to re-create the roots altogether.

Imagination turns into reality in the process of establishing Hong Kong as a colony. Living here in the present day, we unavoidably face doubts on personal identity and sense of belonging. This project traces the development of Hong Kong as a fishing village in Tai O, searching the state of 'organic architecture' in stilt houses, between physical space and livings, the role of stilt houses as the roots of indigenous. Roots are reconstructed, through the imagination of Tai O history, and in the relentless forward process.

This is a journey, to search for Hong Kong, and the individual's roots.
